This is The Tonearm
Connecting you with the people and ideas moving culture forward
I'm Lawrence Peryer, host of The Tonearm. I've spent my whole life absorbed by music and culture as a journalist, a music industry executive, and most importantly, as a fan. As someone who enjoys the endless exploration of music, art, and culture, who enjoys going backstage and behind the scenes to understand creative people and how they make the things they make.
This is The Tonearm. We connect you with the people and ideas moving culture forward: musicians, composers, sound engineers, critics, business people, and thinkers. Every episode is one conversation free of format, going where it needs to go, and I ask what I actually want to know and what I think you want to know too.
The Tonearm is for the listener who wants the work explained by the person who made it, not by someone interpreting it from the outside. If you're interested in inspiration, technique, process, and emotion, The Tonearm's for you.
Over hundreds of episodes since February 2020, the thing we do that's different is clear: We're a team of music listeners, readers, moviegoers, museum visitors, and cultural omnivores who understand art and artists and know what questions lead to meaningful conversations. Plus, I know when to shut up and let the guests keep going.
New episodes every week. Thanks for listening
