Artist / Composer

Koen Holtkamp is an artist and composer based in New York’s Hudson Valley. His output includes video and installation as well as music. He has developed a highly personalized approach that foregrounds subtle details and gradual development which is demonstrated in the precise yet playful way in which he transforms simple ingredients into intricate forms. Holtkamp has spent more than two decades shaping a body of work at the intersection of ambient, experimental, and electroacoustic music. Known for his role in the influential duo Mountains, as well as a solo catalog defined by texture and spatial awareness, Holtkamp has long explored how sound interacts with environment and perception. With his latest album Nightlife, he enters a new phase of that inquiry, one shaped as much by physical relocation as artistic evolution. Largely an ensemble record, the album was born from collaboration and features extensive contributions from saxophonist Matt Bauder and drummer Greg Fox as well as a cameo on bass synth from Ben Vida.

Holtkamp has released albums on labels such as Western Vinyl, Thrill Jockey, Love All Day, Umor Rex and Type. He has performed at festivals such as Mutek Mx, Primavera & Le Printemps de Septembre and venues such as Cafe Oto, MoMA PS1 and Issue Project Room.
